چکیده

The focus of this article is distillation design feasibility. It is shown that existing methods for determining feasibility can give incorrect results or produce feasible designs that waste energy due to over-specification and mass balance errors. An iterative refinement procedure based on direct substitution is proposed within the distillation line method of Lucia et al. that automatically adjusts one product composition to determine feasibility. Direct substitution equations are presented in detail and 14 literature examples are used to illustrate the efficacy of iterative refinement. Numerical results show that iterative refinement can find feasible designs that other methods cannot find, often resulting in significant reductions in energy requirements, and that it is all product compositions, not just trace compositions that affect most shortcut methods for distillation design. Iterative refinement can also find minimum energy requirements and identify sets of specifications that give infeasible designs. On-Line Nonlinear Dynamic Data Reconciliation Using Extended Kalman Filtering: Application to a Distillation Column and a CSTR

Extended Kalman Filtering (EKF) is a nonlinear dynamic data reconciliation (NDDR) method. One of its main advantages is its suitability for on-line applications. This paper presents an on-line NDDR method using EKF. It is implemented for two case studies, temperature measurements of a distillation column and concentration measurements of a CSTR. In each time step, random numbers with zero m...

A Two-Level Distillation Design Method

Recently, Lucia et al. have used a distillation line method to develop the concept of shortest stripping line distance approach to minimum energy designs of distillation columns and multiunit processes. It is well known that distillation line methods can be very sensitive to specified product compositions. A two-level distillation design procedure is proposed for finding portfolios of minimum e...

Estimation of Distillation Compositions Using Sensitivity Matrix Analysis and Kernel Ridge Regression

The stringent quality requirement of petroleum products in highly competitive markets makes on-line controlling of distillation composition essential. In this paper, a novel method using sensitivity matrix analysis and kernel ridge regression to implement on-line estimation of distillation compositions is proposed. In the approach, the sensitivity matrix analysis is presented to select the most...

Measurement selection for on-line estimation of nonlinear wavemodels for high purity distillation columns

Nonlinear wave models are commonly used to provide a reduced-order description of distillation column dynamics. Due to the simplified model structure, on-line parameter estimation is typically required for satisfactory prediction of column performance. In this paper an approach for selecting stage composition/temperature measurements for on-line estimation of wave model parameters is presented....

Acute, subchronic, and developmental toxicological properties of lubricating oil base stocks.

Lubricating oil base stocks (LOBs) are substances used in the manufacture of finished lubricants and greases. They are produced from residue remaining after atmospheric distillation of crude oil that is subsequently fractionated by vacuum distillation and additional refining steps. Initial LOB streams that have been produced by vacuum distillation but not further refined may contain polycyclic ...
